Aim For The Heart…

Summer is in the air—Here in the Dale the weekend found us fanning our faces, repeating, “It’s a dry heat.” It’s 115. Summer, in other parts of the country, brings weddings and anniversaries. Our house is deluged with invitations, celebrations and love merriment.

Jealous? You bet. The Norwegian and I would have been married thirty-two years. And yes, I still believe in marriage—just not for me. Pity the poor man who would live under that comparison. It doesn’t keep me from dispensing marriage advice. Be the safe place. Always let your partner know he or she is first in your life. Call him Baby. Oh, and wear heels and pearls to bed. Be that trashy kind of classy chick. It’ll be our secret.

Some search for words to express adoration. For all my lovers of quotes, and there are bunches (who knew?) here are some words of romance for the summer.

“He’s more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” –Emily Bronte. Oh those Bronte sisters.

“I want to be the reason you look down at your phone and smile. Then walk into a pole.” –Unknown. For those of us who get our heels stuck in grates and trip over nothing.

“As she lay her head upon his chest, his heart beat to a tune that soothed her soul.” –Louise Alexandra Erskine

“He whispered he loved me, and the storm in me fell silent.” –Jenn Satsune. This one for the OCD girls.

“It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.” –Unknown

“She wasn’t doing a thing that I could see except standing there, leaning on the balcony railing holding the universe together.” –JD Salinger

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” –AA Milne. This is the reason we love Pooh.

“As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep; slowly and they all at once.” –John Green

“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged Cupid blind.” –Shakespeare

“If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk through my garden forever.”–Alfred Lord Tennyson

“Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.” –AA Milne. Just in case you question the wisdom of Pooh.

“Nobody has ever measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold.” –Zelda Fitzgerald

“Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your hearth or burn down your house, you can never tell.” –Joan Crawford. This from the woman who beat children with coat hangers.

You are now armed with words, my dolls. You have no mightier arrow in your quiver. Aim for the heart.

You have to find something to do in his heat.
